Jillian - Introduction to Internship

Technical writing was something I considered for a potential career path since the beginning of my college education. Furthermore, the pharmaceutical industry has fascinated me the past few years and thoughts of joining this field in a writing capacity crossed my mind many times. While looking for a summer job in the months before my junior year at Cabrini, I kept these interests at hand when applying to various places. I applied to clinical research companies, pharmaceutical corporations and industries alike. I was lucky enough to get my foot in the door at a well-known clinical research company in North Wales, PA as an administrative assistant, working in a number of departments and making great contacts.

After months of working at ICON Clinical Research, I obtained my goal of receiving an internship in the Scientific Communications Department for my senior year. I was very excited to hear that I would be a part of writing creative sales/marketing text, responses to requests for information (RFI) and business proposals from inquiring pharmaceutical companies. In addition, I will get the chance to write a Case Study for publication on a significant study ICON has performed. I will be assisting a team of five writers by creating executive biographies of ICON employees, experience sections for sales purposes and engaging in the research/preparation of responses to RFIs. Moreover, I will be a part of facilitating business growth by developing sales documents in order to market ICON's clinical services.

I feel very fortunate to experience this great opportunity as I continue to further enhance my writing and editing capabilities in a corporate environment.
